Eating & Drinking Out - Au Cochin Fidèle

Au Cochon Fidele

Au Cochon Fidele is a bar & restaurant which has been recently  refurbished by new owner Paul Rose. The bar has a long tradition in the area and well regarded as the local meeting place. The bar typifies a traditional french bar with an extensive choice of beers and enjoyed by the locals.

Au Cochon Fidele does not provide a food menu rather just food to accompany drink called 'Pitances' and 'Café Gourmand' pictured below. The bar is also renowned for traditionally made ice creams and you can see the traditional freezer behind the bar. This tradition has recently been restarted.

You can certainly be guaranteed a warm welcome if not by the real fire but by owner Paul. This is a must visit during your stay a La Maison de Cromac. Check out there Facebook page below which is always updated with special events, music nights & even happy hours.

In the past, the Croix de la Chardière was a big crossing with roads leading to the big villages or towns in the north of Haute-Vienne. There was only one farm at this crossroads before 1870 and travellers would stop there to quench their thirst before carrying on with their long journey.

Before they got there, they would notice Madame Aucamus's pig eating acorns from the farm. As each visitor arrived and told her that her pig had run away, Madame Aucamus would systematically tell them: 'Oh, don't you worry. My pig's a very evening, so he does!'

So customers decided to call this country farm the 'Faithful Pig' (cochon fidèle) and would arrange to meet each other AT THE FAITHFUL PIG (Au Cochon Fidele) before continuing on their way.
