Swimming Lakes & Beaches

The region known as the 'Lake district of France' everywhere you travel throughout the region you will come across a lake, some small and others very large the departement be home to one of the largest man made lakes in France, "Lac de Vassiviere". Most facilities like life guards, restaurants, snack bar tend to be open only during summer season.

Lac de Rochegaudon, Chaillac - 15 mins by car .

Just on the outskirts of Chaillac is Lac de Rochegaudon which has beach, kids play park, beach volley ball court, bar, snack hut, life guard patrolled swimming area with waterslide. There are also pedalos to explore the lake on. There is a nice footpath round both parts of the lake and plenty of fishing points.

Etang de la Chaume, Azerables - 20 mins by car.

Based entirely on a bed of sand where exceptional nutritional quality for fish growth. Swimming is permitted in the lake but occassionally not allowed due to the lack of transparency of the water, there is a picnic area, a parking area, a restaurant and bar, play area with games for children, a bird observatory , located on the north shore of the pond and being restored, which can be observed up to 127 species of bird, and of course fishing (including sport fishing for carp that participates fully in the reputation of the pond in France and abroad).

Lac d’Eguzon, Chantôme Eguzon - 35 mins drive.

Large lake, with plenty of water sport activities including, sailing, windsurfing kayaking, canoeing, water skiing, wakeboard and wakeskate. The main swimming area at the lake with beach is at Range Chambon (Eguzon) and has a small play park, water slide & restaurant/bar. There are six areas for swimming around the lake. The construction in 1926 of one of the largest hydroelectric dams in Europe, saw the deep valley make way for 312-acre Lake Eguzon, which offers a wide choice of leisure and water activities for the whole family and in all seasons.

Lac de Sagnat, Bessines-sur-Gartempe - 25 mins drive


Etang de Sagnat, 22 ha, 2 km from the town centre, fishing, playgrounds and picnic area. There is a beach near the parking area and there is a lovely walk around the lake. There is swimming alound and there is also a Lifeguard from July 1 to August 15.

Lac Saint-Pardoux - 40 mins drive

Saint-Pardoux Lake is a popular tourist destination in the Haute-Vienne. Nestling within a protected natural site, this 330-hectare artificial lake is perfect for enjoying activities in the great outdoors - alone, as a family or with friends. Located over 3 main sites you can enjoy different activities the lake has to offer.

There is a wide array of facilities with something for everyone: treat yourself to the fitness course, , the 50 kilometres of marked footpaths, the sailing centre, water skiing club, or how about a spot of fishing or hiking. There are plenty or routes for cycling around the lake and if you are looking for something a bit different, why not try the acrobatic trail through the trees.

In the summer, three laid-out beaches with lifeguard-attended bathing areas (1st July / 31st August) as well as packed entertainment programme (fireworks, aquatic show, games and workshops for kids, sports events, car boot sales and more) are available for your relaxation and enjoyment. There are also children's play parks.

Lac de Vassiviere - 1hr 15min drive

The Spectacular Lake Vassivière – one of the largest lakes in France. Lake Vassivière is a haven for a multitude of water sports and outdoor leisure activities.  There is so much to do and see, it's a fantastic area for fun and a great educational experience for children as well. An ideal day out whilst staying at La Maison de Cromac.

 The lake has a depth of 35m and is great for fishing for pike, perch, carp and black bass.

There are three locations for boat trips around lake Vassivière, one boat has an on board restaurant.  You can also hire a boat from Auphelle on lake Vassivière.


Around Lac de Vassivière there are 6 fully equipped sand beaches with playgrounds for children, there are volley-ball, basket ball, tennis courts and table tennis tables to be found around the lake. During the holiday season bathing beaches are supervised.

There are over 300km of walking and cycling routes, through undisturbed forest, heathland and peaceful countryside. The edge of the lake is dotted with pretty villages, many with excellent restaurants and snack bars.

There are four fully equipped harbours, sailing clubs and schools on Lake Vassivière, great for windsurfing, water-skiing, wake-boarding canoeing, kayaking, regattas and two areas reserved for motor-boating and water skiing are available at the two aquatic centres at the lake; Ski Nautique Club at Auchaize & Club Nautique de Vassivière at Auphelle.


Le Centre Equestre de Vassivière en Limousin is a great place to try some horse-riding! There are ponies and horses to suit all ages and abilities.

If you'd like to experience the lake and surrounding area from a different perspective why not try the tree adventure / obstical course. The Parc d'Arbre en Arbre, Vassiviere provides a fantastic aerial rope course challenge set in the tall pine trees made up of 7 circuits with 90 games.  If you like climbing, this is for you.  It's very safe and even very young toddlers are catered for.


The “Isle de Vassivière” is the home of the National Centre of Contemporary Art. Follow signs for ‘L’Isle de Vassivière’ and walk across the bridge to the main island of the lake, or you can take the petit-train. Apart from the Art Centre, there are some lovely walks in the woodland and great places for a picnic. You can also enjoy some of the animal exhibits, snack bar and a couple of very friendly donkeys! We love walking here in September – November. It is usually very quiet and peaceful and the turning leaves make a beautiful sight.

Aqualudique basin of Lake Mondon


Here, all swimmers are welcome! Installed in 2007, when the pool is declared prohibited in Lake Mondon, this area of two hundred and fifty square meters is one of the few in the north of the department to offer a heated outdoor pool. Water slides, swings and other the gates separating the lake where paddleboats and inflatable slide silently to the surface. Armed with your access blue bracelet, you and your children drop your shoes on the shelves provided for this purpose and go in the shower. Moms take them toddlers splashing in the wading pool, while the largest, in a joyful ride, bite a dip in the pool of seventeen by twelve meters. Cries of pleasure and laughter does not seem to disturb the crowd hats and sunglasses arranged on both sides of the basin. But the star of the water park, one to which all tend to swim, the water slide. Long twenty-seven meters, there is unanimity among children and their parents. At the end of the slide, all land in a pool of a ten meter deep and have a haste go again. A successful day between sky and water, in fact.

AIGA Bluia pool - Blue Water Saint-Junien

Villa Sport - Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche



Recreational Villa Water Sports Centre offers special development for older toddlers from six months to four years. At the entrance, a packed paddling turtles, fish and plastic boats allows moms to sit in the water with toddlers. A few steps away, under large windows, a water garden curvaceous allows larger familiarize themselves with the water. Two slides are installed to let them know the first slides. Moreover, the pool water is thirty-two degrees. Fathers and mothers use foam tubes, giant fries, colorful rugs and other floating huts available to initiate their children to water fun.

You are not in the Caribbean, but the space Aqua'Noblat, at a time when the pool for children aged six months to six years. Piscine d'été Chauffée - Eymoutiers


The summer pool Eymoutiers has a large swimming pool 25mx12m, a smaller pool of 12mX12m, a slide pool with reception as well as a children's pool. The bar is open to swimmers and the public on independent terraces.

A solarium can relax after swimming. The pool offers swimming lessons for adults and children, the phobia and aerobics.

Centre aquatique de Limoges Métropole - Opening in 2014

The creation of an aquatic center of Limoges Métropole is a new great project of the Greater Community Way after the South Link and Zenith.

It aims to promote access to learning to swim to a wide audience, offering fun activities and activities of well-being ( health and beauty ) . It will also allow the organization of national or international inter -regional sporting events .

This equipment ( 12,000 m2 covered area and 27,000 m2 of outdoor area ) will use its scale to enhance the attractiveness of Limoges Métropole .

The center will consist of three areas:

    A hall / basins with :

  • a sports pool (50 x 25 m) with a completely removable wall
  • a catch basin and relaxation (25 x 12.5 m) with a removable bottom
  • a pool for young children ( lagoon games
  • a fun pool (leisure area , river, wave area )
  • a space dedicated to the associative cluster "high level" with mobilization competitions a press room and shared spaces .
  • the locker room hall -basin areas
  • fixed tiers must be completed by removable seats as needed

    A " health well-being " of 750 m2 area (sauna, steam room, spa ... )
    An area of fast food
