La Maison de Cromac Culture

A culturally stimulating life

The International Francophonies Festival, the Saint-Junien Press Cartoons and Humour Festival, the Nexon International Circus Festival… these and more more that prove that culture is alive and kicking in the Haute-Vienne. With an abundance of theatre troupes including the Limoges National Centre for Drama which was awarded a Moliére, numerous musical groups, a well informed music-loving public that with enthusiasm follows the Limoges Baroque Ensemble (directed by Christophe Coin and internationally recognised), a biennial festival of modern dance….. in the Haute-Vienne the thirst for culture appears unquenchable.

The Nexon in Limousin Circus Centre

The circus at Nexon is a slightly crazy idea born 20 years ago whenAnnie Fratellini was welcomed to the town to organise courses with her Ecole Nationale du Cirque (National Circus School). The bid that was far from certain was transformed into an incredible success : more than 240 000 people have frequented the universe of the circus in 20 years, in other words a hundred times the population of Nexon !

Today, a circular big top housing 400 places is permanently installed in the château de Nexon Park with its 40-hectare wooded estate.

The Nexon Circus Arts Centre in Limousin is a place of creation, diffusion and and awareness for the circus arts, unique in France. It organises the La Route du Cirque (The Circus Road) Festival every year in August so that the public can discover the diversity of a contemporary circus’s creation. The possibility of eating under the big top brings an added touch of conviviality to this summer event.

Villefavard Musical Farm

/media/whattosee/library/ferme-de-villefavard1-450.jpg

It’s in the north of the département, in a small village of an architecture bathed in religious history that Jérôme Kaltenbach, orchestra leader, decided to transform the family farm built around 1890, mostly the barn, into a magnificent concert hall with exceptional acoustics and the out building into places for musical residencies.

The musical farm houses concerts notably during the Haut Limousin Festival. Over the years, Villefavard has become a place of training, of meetings, of musical exchanges and artists’ residencies. Jérôme Kaltenbach knows how to give to music and musicians an exceptional place of artistic expression. A magical atmosphere floats over the charming and small Villefavard village.
